Borrego Springs is a COVID-Aware Community, with many older residents, and a culture of health is the expected norm.

On your journeys into town make sure you follow existing COVID health regulations, this includes a face covering and maintaining distance.  This protects you and you show your respect for others by doing so.
Good footwear is essential, even for short walks.  Sharp spines and things to stick you are everywhere.  One bad experience with cholla cactus, as shown to the left, will be all you need to always choose decent footwear over sandels for all your desert hikes.
Most roads in Anza-Borrego are dirt.  Some can be driven with 2 wheel drive but most will require a high clearance vehicle as there will be rocks and other obstacles to clear.  Road conditions can also change quickly, a firm road last season can be deep sand this season. Recent rain can totally change road conditions.  Getting towed out is very expensive.  Avoid areas that are questionable for your vehicle or driving experience.  As you drive, always look ahead for areas than might look sandy or wet.  If you sense your vehicle spinning in sand, don't stop but keep moving forward at a steady speed, until you come to a more firm area.
Take water and some basic snacks with you, even for short walks, drives, and hikes.  Unexpected delays can be expected in the desert and the best way to prepare is to take enough water and snacks wherever you go.
