Stopping points of interest along the Sweeney Pass Road include:

Indian Gorge: This is the entrance to Torote Canyon and Indian Valley. Hiking access to Sombrero Peak. More.
Mountain Palm Springs: Several palm groves. Elephant trees. Primitive camping. More.
Egg Mountain: An absolutely easy walk. More.
Bow Willow: Former Indian Village and state park campground. Hiking in Bow Willow Canyon and to Mountain Palm Springs. More.
Carrizo Creek: Hiking in Carrizo Canyon.
Carrizo Badlands: More.
South Carrizo Creek Road: Another way into the badlands. More.
Sweeney Canyon: Look for wildflowers in spring where Sweeney Pass Road climbs out of the Bow Willow-Carrizo creek crossings. Or, park and walk into the canyon to explore.
Canyon sin Nombre: Geology students study this canyon. Others merely enjoy it. More.
Carrizo Badlands Overlook: A popular stopping place. More.
Jojoba Wash: This very sandy road (4WD only) circles around the Volcanic Hills and can be followed to the site of the Dos Cabezas station of the San Diego Arizona & Eastern Railway.
Dolomite Mine Road: Access to the Coyote Mountains. More.
