Hawkwatch updates

The 2026 season has come to an end!

THANK YOU to all the Hawkwatch volunteers for your support!

It was a slow year with only 1,475 Swainson’s hawks recorded as migrating. This was our second lowest count since we began the Hawkwatch in 2002.

Though this was disappointing we did get to help band 10 Swainson’s hawks to be able to follow them in their trips around the world. Including last year’s banding project, we now have 8 birds with GPS backpacks and are really excited to see what they will tell us the years to come.

We hope that this year’s low count is just a blip and that we will see a return to more average numbers in the future.

Visit us on Facebook on our page Borrego Springs Hawk Watch  to see more about the 2026 season and follow this link to become a volunteer next year : the season usually starts at the end of February.

SEE YOU ALL AGAIN FOR THE 2027 SEASON!
