Stargazing

Stargazing TIPS

You can find a great spot for stargazing just about anywhere in Borrego Springs and Anza-Borrego, as long you can get away from the business area, neighborhoods and street lighting. During the daytime, look around for potential stargazing locations away from lights and traffic, and with suitable parking. Bring a flashlight, star chart, chairs, insect repellent, munchies and water. Wear sturdy shoes and warm layers.

Stop in the Desert Nature Center at 652 Palm Canyon Drive to pick up a free map showing the location of stargazing spots. The shop also sells star charts and useful books on stargazing.

Stargazing Locations in Anza-Borrego

As a certified International Dark Sky Park, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park offers many excellent locations for stargazing. You can go pretty much anywhere in the park to experience the wonderful dark skies. Popular stargazing spots include the following locations:

  • Font’s Point
  • Coyote Canyon
  • Culp Valley
  • Blair Valley

Be careful traveling on jeep roads at night. We recommend going with at least one other vehicle and telling someone where you are going. Cell phone service is spotty throughout the park, so you may not be able to count on making a call if you get stuck.
