Unless specified otherwise in the activity descriptions below, hikes have a 15 person limit, and they begin in the ABDNHA parking lot.

  • Romania Trip 2026 (Wait List)

    Join Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association on a grand tour of Romania, one of Europe’s most underrated destinations. Romania has beautiful nature, charming medieval towns, stately castles, colorful monasteries, traditional rural areas, interesting history, and several UNESCO world heritage sites. The group will be led by geologist Don Barrie, GeoTours tour director Matt Ebiner, and an English-speaking Romanian guide.

  • 4WD Tour: Palomar Divide Road

    CA-79 & San Felipe Road 29187 CA-79, Ranchita, CA, United States

    We meet at the parking area on the corner of CA-79 & San Felipe Rd (S2) at 9:00 a.m., then caravan on CA-79 to US Forest trail 8S07 a.k.a. Temecula Creek (elev. 2000 feet). Traveling up the mountain trail 8S07, we turn onto 9S07 Palomar Divide Trail and drive on to the high point of the trip at elev. 5880 feet where we stop and have a lunch break on the east slope in an area of Black Oak and conifer trees. After lunch, we continue on 9S07 driving over Aguanga Mountain and stop briefly to view Barker Valley. Driving on, we reach the end of our trip at Highway CA-79 at Blue Canyon. After driving 25 miles of mountain trail, we say goodbye. Bring food/water, a chair, a hat, and appropriate clothing. We will use 2-way radio GRMS channel 15. Stop by the Nature Center or call 760-767-3098 to reserve.

  • Mongolia Trip 2027 (Wait List)

    Join Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association on a tour of Mongolia, a country full of beautiful nature and fascinating culture.  ABDNHA-GeoTours Mongolia will visit Mongolia’s highlights and will attend the annual Naadam festival in a beautiful setting. Geologist and ABDNHA Board Member Don Barrie will be the group co-leader along with GeoTours guide Matt Ebiner.
