  • Bird Walk: Borrego Springs Resort

    Enjoy an easy, early Thanksgiving bird walk! Though the Borrego Springs Resort golf course is closed, its water features still attract many birds. Look for Hooded Merganser, Ruddy Duck, Green and Black-Crowned Night Herons, and possibly a Vermilion Flycatcher. Two miles, no elevation gain, easy trail. Meet at the ABDNHA parking lot by 7:50 a.m. Bring snacks, binoculars, and water. No charge; registration required. Reserve by calling or visiting the Nature Center at 760-767-3098. Maximum 10 participants.

  • Hike with Birding: Big Laguna Lake

    A lake in the mountains seems like an unlikely place to see birds, but it will delight and surprise you. We’ll look for Pygmy and White-Breasted Nuthatch, Cinnamon Teal, Shovelers, Canvasback, and birds of prey. A fairly easy four miles round-trip, with  a 120’ gain in elevation, good tread. Travel time 1-¼ hour each way. Meet at ABDNHA by 7:50 a.m. Bring lunch/snacks, binoculars, water. No charge; registration required; call or visit the Nature Center at 760-767-3098.  Maximum 10 participants.

  • Hike with Birding: Pacific Crest Trail to Eagle Rock

    Bird-focused hike on the PCT along Cañada Verde Creek and grasslands to Eagle Rock. Look for raptors, Wild Turkey, Oak Titmouse, Bluebirds, and Acorn Woodpeckers. 6.5 miles round trip, 700' gain, easy tread. Meet at ABDNHA by 7:50 a.m. Bring lunch/snacks, binoculars, and water. No charge; registration required. Reserve by calling or visiting the Nature Center at 760-767-3098. Max 10.

    Looking for something different on Christmas morning? Join us at a top Borrego birding spot—open to us for one day only. Spot Cinnamon and Green-winged Teal, Gadwall, Grebes, and more on this easy walk. 4 miles round trip, 100' gain. Meet at the ABDNHA parking lot by 7:50 a.m. Bring snacks, binoculars, and water. No charge. Reserve at 760-767-3098. Max 10.

  • Bird Walk: Beginning Birding at Borrego Springs Resort

    Start the New Year with a resolution: start birding! If you can’t tell a sparrow from a flycatcher from a wren, this trip is for you! Instead of racking up species, we will slow down and take more time with each bird, learning how to tell them apart. We'll bring a scope, so you’ll get a good look at each bird's distinguishing features. This is a 2.0-mile walk, with no elevation gain, on an easy trail. Meet in the ABDNHA parking lot by 7:50 a.m. Bring snacks, binoculars, and water. No charge. Register at the Nature Center or 760-767-3098. Max 10.
