Redstem Filaree or Storksbill

GERANIACEAE: Erodium cicutarium

This commonly seen redstem filaree always gets attention, although it is a non-native. Also known as storksbill, it seems to flourish in or near areas that once were used for ranching.

A similar but less common species is desert filaree or heron’s bill (Erodium texanum). John Mark Stewart (Colorado Desert Wildflowers) calls the leaves “clover-like.”
