Heart-Leaved Primrose or Heartleaf Suncup

What’s in a name? Cardiologists are physicians who attend to peoples’ hearts. “Phylla” means “leaf”. “Cardiophylla” means “heart-shaped leaf”. However, there is more than that to the heart-leaved primrose, a lover of sheltered places that don’t get much sun. The younger flowers are yellow, but as they age, they turn red, often giving us a plant with both colors. This plant is also known as heartleaf suncup.
