Lew and his wife, Sandy, have shared a love of hiking since meeting in grad school in New York. Inspired by Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire, they fell for the western deserts, with Sandy publishing Hiking Southwest Desert Country in 1990. Their passion led them to move to Moab, Utah, in 2008.
