San Diego Sweet Pea

FABACEAE [LEGUMINOSAE]: Lathyrus vestitus var. alefeldii

On a day when you are walking mountain trails, looking at all the greenery, some bright pink flowers may get your attention. Looking closely, you may note a similarity between the shape of the San Diego sweet pea and that of lupine. Indeed, both are Fabaceae, members of the Pea Family.

You won’t find this plant in the desert, but you will consider yourself lucky if you find it in the mountains above the desert. The photos below were taken on Bucksnort Mountain below Combs Peak.
