Stroll across a wooden bridge over
a dry creek bed to enter a uniquely Borrego desert garden,
artistically designed with creative plant placements and comfortable
outdoor spaces. Native plants such as
creosote, brittlebush, ocotillo, jojoba and more dot the grounds.
Trees such as palo verde, mesquite and palms provide shade and shelter
for birds. Follow a path past interpretive stories and identification labels. Some of the plantings and displays will showcase Kumeyaay and Cahuilla history and plant use. In one corner of the botanic garden you will find Borrego’s agricultural history, with representative crops and artifacts. Continuing along the path, you arrive at a small palm grove with a boulder-strewn pool to attract birds and wildlife. A special camera will be placed to identify nighttime animal visitors. |
The middle part of the garden will provide an outdoor space for educational programs and events. Boulders and benches offer seating for classes or quiet reflection.
