ANZA-BORREGO SOUTH : ROADS Dos Cabezas Spring
One of the Two Heads of Dos Cabezas
Dos Cabezas was a station on the route of the San Diego-Arizona and Eastern
Railway. Its water tower remains today. The name, which means Two Heads,
comes from two head-shaped boulders in the Jacumba Mountains about two and
a quarter miles across a valley to the southwest.
There is a spring at the base of the mountains below these boulders. The
spring and a nearby campsite both bear the Dos Cabezas name. If you have
this place to yourself, it can be one of the most peaceful places in the
desert. The spring is active the year around and supports some good plant
life while providing water for birds and animals.
