Anza-Borrego North: Coyote Mountain
Borrego Valley, Coyote Mountain, Rabbit Peak
When looking down on Borrego Springs from the western mountains,
Coyote Mountain stands to the northeast, with the Santa Rosa Mountains behind
it. At the south end of the ridge separating lower Coyote Canyon and Clark
Valley, Coyote Mountain rises 3,192 feet above sea level. It's just high
enough for a good day hike, and there are opportunities for shorter hikes
as well.
The most popular hikes are Alcoholic Pass from the Coyote
Canyon Jeep Trail and any of several trails at or near the Pegleg Monument
area, at least one of which can be followed to the top.
