Box Canyon from Third Crossing
North Canyon was what the old-time cattlemen called Box Canyon, and for a simple reason. It lies north of Third Crossing and the area around it. If you didn't bring a compass and want to know where north is, just look for this canyon.
Getting to it involves a not-too-easy walk over rocks and up and down embankments. Once arriving at the canyon, most hikers climb northward out of it and into the mountains where there are views. It is possible to continue hiking to Hidden Spring and the Rockhouse Canyon Road. A circle hike can start from the Alcoholic Pass trailhead.
