The Borrego Desert Energy Project is an ongoing educational and community outreach effort designed to inform the public and stimulate discussion about energy generation and use, and the relationships between energy, climate, and the natural world.

The Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association is a non-profit organization with the mission of providing educational programs on a broad range of desert topics. 

The Borrego Desert Energy Center also provides information about other sustainable issues and projects, such as a sustainable water supply for the community,  preservation of the dark night sky,  and Borrego Springs' status as an international dark sky community.

     The Borrego Desert Energy Project offers:  

  • Outdoor interpretive displays under the solar ramada at the entrance to ABDNHA’s Botanical Garden.
  • Website:  www.borregoenergy.org  
  • Tour guide to sustainable projects in the Borrego Valley.  
  • Ongoing educational programming for all age groups.  
  • Energy career programs for high school students.
    The deserts of the Southwest are experiencing a time of tremendous change.  There is technological change and there is climate change. The Southwest is predicted to be one of the areas most affected by climate change in the continental United States.  Significant change has already been documented. 

    Scientific evidence has shown that the principal cause of climate change is the way we generate and use energy around the world. This includes energy used in our homes and businesses, along with energy used for transportation and industry. Understanding energy and climate,and the choices that need to be made, is the essential first step to slow and reverse the process of climate change.     		 

The Borrego Desert Energy Project is a program of the non-profit Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association, with support from the California Energy Commission.
