Call 760-767-3098 to get on waitlist. \nLeader: Robin Halford\, ABDNHA Volunteer\nThis hike goes into the red colored mud hills of the Skeleton Canyon Fault\, part of the larger San Andreas Fault Complex\, with a wonderful slot canyon before the stopping point. Expect uneven ground and some bouldering. The total hike distance (round trip) is 4.9 miles. Sturdy shoes recommended. Bring snack/lunch and water. Limit 10. \nNote: Meet at Painted Canyon Road off of Box Canyon Road! \nDriving instructions to meeting place: Drive North on Hwy 86 and go right (east) on 66th Ave. Go over the bypass bridge and turn right (east) at the\nlight. Drive 4.5 miles and turn left onto Painted Canyon Road. We will meet here. The road is usually OK for 2WD with high clearance. 4WD/AWD suggested. Register at or call the Nature Center.

SUMMARY:ABDNHA Members 4WD Tour: Full Moon at Font's Point - FULL (waitlist)
DESCRIPTION:4WD TRIP IS FULL. Call 760-767-3098 to get on waitlist. \nLeader: Jim Torian\, ABDNHA Volunteer\nJoin us for the “Cold Moon” rising as viewed from Font’s Point. This is the last full moon of 2025. The sun’s low angle should offer striking views of the Borrego Badlands\, Ocotillo Wells\, and the Salton Sea. Meet at the ABDNHA Nature Center parking lot at 3 p.m. for a quick briefing\, then head east on S22 to Font’s Point Wash\, turning off on a washboard and sandy wash for 4 miles. Walk less than 100 yards to the overlook. Bring camera\, beverage\, and snack to enjoy with the moonrise at 4:17 p.m. We will leave by 5:30 p.m. to return to S22\, where our journey ends. This portion will be at night and offer a different perspective off-road. Check the weather and dress accordingly; this trip is weather-dependent. Bring a chair\, a full tank of fuel\, and ensure you have 4WD (AWD is OK). GMRS Radio Ch. 15 is optional. Limited space and vehicles. No charge. Register at the ABDNHA Nature Center or 760-767-3098. We will be entering from Hawk Valley\, then climbing up a hidden slot to the ridge above\, then on to West Butte. 3.5 miles RT\, 500′ of climbing\, steep sections with scary drop offs\, some step-ups. Access road is suitable for most 2WD. Meet at ABDNHA by 7:50 a.m. Bring lunch/snacks\, water. Call 760-767-3098 to reserve. Limit: 10.
