Anza-Borrego South: San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway

Goat Canyon Trestle
Notice the structure with the slanted roof in the upper center of the photograph above. That is a railroad tunnel that has been disturbed by movement of the earth. When the San Diego & Arizona Railway first opened in 1916, the train used the tunnel. A few years later, after the tunnel became unusable, the railroad builders went back to work and creature the Goat Canyon Trestle around the mountain rather than through it.
