Central Anza-Borrego: Yaqui Flat

Yaqui Well

Yaqui Flat, which stretches along the usually dry San Felipe Creek from Sentenac Canyon to Mescal Bajada, provides access to such popular areas as Yaqui Well (with a primitive campground), Grapevine Canyon, and Plum Canyon. It is a well-known area for observing cactus in bloom and also for wildlife viewing.

County Road S-3 from Borrego Springs ends at Highway 78 near the state park's Tamarisk Grove Campground with a couple of easy hiking trails. The California Riding and Hiking Trail enters the area through Plum Canyon, then goes north through Grapevine Canyon, climbing to County Road S-22 at Culp Valley.

Lesser-known trails from Yaqui Flat include Lizard Canyon and Bitter Creek Canyon. Pinyon Ridge, which forms the northern boundary to Yaqui Flat, can be climbed from any number of starting points.
