This commonly seen little plant always gets attention, although it is a non-native.It seems to flourish in or near areas that once were used for ranching.
A similar but less comon species is Desert Filaree or Heron's Bill (Erodium texanum). John Mark Stewart (Colorado Desert Wildflowers) calls the leaves "clover-like."
